Havasupai Tribe

Hualapai Nation

Hualapai Lodge

Grand Canyon Caverns

Hit The Trail

Getting There:

Havasu Falls is 10 miles below what is known as Hualapai Hilltop.  The village of Supai is 8 miles.  Hualapai Hilltop is 61 miles on Indian Route 18.  There is no service of any kind along this road and you are driving across open range.  Beware of cattle.  The road is about 6 miles east of Peach Springs and it is not well marked – look for signs that also say Fraziers Well.  Once at Hualapai Hilltop, there are two parking areas that are not very large.  People also park along the canyon wall but I don not recommend this since I noticed falling rocks.  There is no service at the hilltop.  There is however toilets, a hut for having your gear shipped down, and a large RV for refreshments.  The helipad is on the ridge above.

Lodging

Lodging for the previous night can be found at the Hualapai Lodge on the Hualapai Indian reservation in Peach springs.  The lodge is right on Historic Route 66 in the center of Peach Springs.  Lodging can also be found in Seligman, AZ and at the Grand Canyon Caverns 12 miles east of Peach Springs.

Driving from East to Peach Spring:
Start on US-60, turn right to take the I-25 North ramp. Merge on I-25 North. Drive for about 50 miles then take the Exit 226A. Continue on the ramp to merge onto I-40 East, then I-40 West again for about 290 miles. Cont. on I-40 East, then I-40 west, again until you hit Exit 121. Turn Right on I-40 BUS. Turn left on AZ-66, drive for about 37 miles and turn left on Diamond Creek Rd. Which will lead you right into Peach Springs.

Note:  The hotel is next to a crossing guard of the BNSF railroad - let me tell you a train went by every 20-30 minutes - and yes they still blast their air horns when they approach a crossing.  I had a room on the backside near the tracks - actually it wasn't too bad and after a while I didn't even notice it. You may want to ask for a room on the front side of the hotel.

Camping Permit Fees:

The permit fee is $20 entrance and $10 per night/person to camp at Havasu Falls (FY2005).  You pick up your permit at the camping office at the village of Supai.  It is recommended that you get reservations.
